Why Consultants Are Not Expensive

Are consultants expensive? There are two points of view here:

  • Yes, consultants are expensive, because if you don’t understand the value a consultant can give or how to profit from a consultant, then they are indeed expensive.
  • No, consultants are not expensive, because a consultant can give you fresh insights and solutions into aspects of your business that you can no longer see clearly.

Much like a broker, the consultant is paid for achieving specific targets by specific dates, and the value of that is immense to any business or individual.

Consultants for business word map

Consider a modelling consultant
The difference between a model built by an experienced modeller and the in-house version could be exactly what the management are seeking. I will bet the very trousers I stand in that directors are looking for that intuitive understanding about what makes their business tick; this is what an experience financial modelling consultant can provide.

What are the real drivers of change? You will need to run sensitivities to get a feel of the dynamics of your business and there are models that are superbly designed to be able to do just that with ease. Without confusion. Without complication.

There are also other models – built by less experienced or non-professional modellers –  that get tangled and complex, and effectively create a barrier from really understanding the business. Hours can pass and the less expensive solution proves to be a bad choice.

Surely a deeper understanding of your business is worth its weight in gold?
